Tesla may have gone through the wall first and made being environmentally conscious hip, and they reaped a nice financial reward for their efforts, with a market cap of 40.74 billion as of September, but now everyone has gotten into the EV/Hybrid game and now you it takes more than just being able to charge up to 80% in less than an hour, now you have to do it with style and Porche is trying to win the title in multiple weight classes. Throughout its history in gas-powered vehicles Porche’s style has never been questioned and now they’re making a strong case for the most stylish EV with 2020 Taycan.
Now, this is not your Daddy’s Prius. This car has all of the stylish European lines like its Grandfather the Carrera and the muscle of the Targa, and much like the higher end Teslas, you’ll be paying for all of that power and style as the Porche Taycan Trubo version will start at $151,00 and the 751hp Taycan Turbo S will be 185,000.
Let’s talk about the performance and power. When you use the overboost and launch control the Turbo S can hit 60 miles-per-hour in a mere 2.6 seconds. Despite the fact that most electric cars have only one-speed transmission because they simply don’t have all of the needs that a gas-powered engine does with big transmissions and multiple gear ratios. The Taycan, however does have a two-speed transmission for its rear wheels, while the front wheels have a single-speed transmission. Having a lower gear on the rear wheels helps to provide such a powerful and quick acceleration from a complete stop.
The interior is what you would expect from a name like Porche, state of the art technology as well as luxury. When you first sit in the Taycan the first thing that you’ll notice, other than the comfortable seats, is that there are almost no switches, knobs, or gauges because most of the controls and instruments are accessed through touch screens. Lastly, for those of you that are tech savvy enough to appreciate it
Besides its driving performance, the Taycan has a very unusual capability to charge quickly. Using special high-output fast chargers, the Taycan will be able to charge its batteries up to 80% in just 22 minutes and 30 seconds. Although those would have to be under ideal conditions but for a car of this type of performance that could actually be it’s best feature.
